Fishing Report
The entrance remains closed and the water is rising quickly and is quite high. Go to the Fishing page to see the height today. There have been good numbers of boats out fishing. The fishing has been fair with bream being caught on lures, plastics and bait. In the last few weeks good catches of bream have been taken in the channel on fresh prawn. There are plenty of prawns about at night so bring your prawning gear. In the Inlet, sandworm has proven to be the better bait although smaller bream tend to dominate. Good sized flathead are still being caught on live prawn, plastics and lures in the Channel and the Inlet. Flounder are also being caught on bait and plastics something which we have not seen in years.
Good salmon have been taken on the beach on blue bait and poppers.
The 2026 Hobie Fishing Series 17, took place at Bemm River, on February 17-18. As a premier, “Bream Capital” venue, it marked the start of the season with over 70 competitors. The tournament uses a catch-and-release format, focusing on the heaviest bag of 3 bream over two days. Typical of Bemm… beautiful one day, far from perfect the next. But don’t let the conditions fool you. The fishing made anglers earn every bite! Tougher conditions on day two tested skills, strategy, and patience. While some struggled to unlock the pattern, others cracked the code and made it count. Greg and David Crebert topped the leaders board with 6 fish weighing 6.14 kg and 5.17 kg respectively with two cracking bags.
